Shibir guards temples !

Comilla: In wake of orders form the central command of Bangladesh Islami Chatra Shibir, activists and leaders of the organization were seen guarding religious institutions of various faiths in various places of the country. As part of this, Shibir activists and leaders were observed sitting and guarding the Hindu Central Mohasomman Temple at Choddogram in Comilla.

This was observed on Monday morning, the second day of the 48 hour nationwide strike called by the opposition Islamic party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. A section of the protesters were observed to be guarding the temple through their presence on the street in front of it. Others were busy enforcing the strike.

Shibir upazila office secretary Jashimuddin, who was present at the gathering, said that Shibir had never attacked Hindu temples and would never do so in the future.

He further added that, "Our movement is against the tyrannical government. We have no conflicts with Hindus. Upon hearing of attacks on temples in various places, we have come out to guard the temple in our locality"

It is mentionable that past few days have seen attacks on minority communities at many places over the country including Noakhali where temples have been reported vandalized and looted. News outlets such as the Daily Star and some pro-government media agencies have alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami was behind such attacks. Jamaat on their part, denied such allegations and asked for an independent judicial inquiry into the incidents.
